Minchenden Lodge awarded "Outstanding" rating by CQC

Scimitar Care Hotels PLC is proud to announce that Minchenden Lodge, the first "care hotel" ever created in the UK has been awarded an "Outstanding" rating by the CQC. This is the highest status that can be awarded to a care provider and is a true reflection of the superior care and support provided by the staff at the Hotel.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has rated the services provided by Minchenden Lodge (part of the Scimitar Care Hotels PLC group) to be Outstanding overall for the first time in the company’s history. This makes Minchenden Lodge one of only three hundred residential care homes in the UK to achieve such a result (at the time of publication).

A team of CQC inspectors visited the residential care home between the 8th and 13th of August 2019 as part of the Commission’s unannounced inspection process. The home had previously been rated Good in January 2017. At this inspection the home is now rated Outstanding for being responsive and well-led whilst maintaining its Good rating in the three domains of safe, effective and caring.

In reflection of the report, the CQC highlighted that the staff were consistently praised for being exceptionally caring and supportive, whilst constantly looking for ways to improve the service and ensure residents received the outstanding care that they deserved. Activities were truly person centred which created an atmosphere of vibrancy and joy within the service.

It was similarly noted that the service was exceptionally well-led, with the Registered Manager demonstrating how an open and supportive management style along with a robust quality assurance system promoted a high quality of care that empowered both residents and staff alike. Residents and staff both remarked how they felt valued and supported whilst at the home.

Several initiatives were recognised as “outstanding” by the CQC that were established at the home by the management. One of which focused on wish lists created for residents where an individual’s lifelong dreams and ambitions were identified and opportunities developed to help fulfil them. This showed the level of tailored, individualised care being provided at the service.
